The History and Success of NuoDB SQL Database

NuoDB is an SQL Database Company used for cloud applications. The company is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts and was established in the year 2008 as NimbusDB. In the year 2011, the organization changed its name to the current name NuoDB. Its technology has been widely used in various companies such as Kodiak, UAE Exchange, Alfa Systems and many others. The co-founders include Barry Morris who is the CEO of the company Jim Starkey.

In 2015, Gartner, an American research and advisory firm in information technology, listed NuoDB SQL database as Visionary in its Magic Quadrant. Two years later, the CEO Barry Morris, became executive chairman while Bob Walmsley was promoted to the CEO previously being the executive vice president. Two years later, NuoDB and CauseSquare became partners, and NuoDB became an official cloud database for social engagement platform.

The SQL database can scale out its functions and be faster in the cloud when a new server is added since the database uses distributed object architecture. NuoDB distributes its database to different processors to avoid data from blocking. The SQL database uses redundant transaction engines and storage managers that can run on the platform to add the capacity to support the NuoDB database.

Instead of replacing the TEs and SMs hardwares, NuoDB expands its database by adding more servers. The company can run anywhere and process over one million transactions per second.
